Twitter announced back on April 8th that they are rolling out a new layout and expanded capabilities for your Twitter Profile. As these rollouts tend to develop, celebrities and others with large follow counts get the new layout first.
Tired of waiting? Here is the link to get your account switched over NOW.
I recommend that before you make the switch you gather and prepare a few new images and photos that you will need to take advantage of the new layout.
Twitter Image Dimensions for the new 2014 layout:
- Your Profile Photo is now more prominent. The recommended dimensions are 400 x 400 pixels. It will resize if larger but a crisp image at 400 x 400 will look best.
- You now have a Header Image (similar to Facebook). Dimensions for this area are 1500 x 500 pixels. Same as with your profile photo, a crystal clear image with those exact dimensions will yield the best results.
- Select a favorite or popular tweet of yours that you can now pin it at the top of your feed. I am thinking this will be a great way to make sure your most important tweets are always seen by a visitor to your profile.
Those are the key visual changes that have been made. Other things you might notice are that your most popular tweets will show in a noticeably larger font as a way to highlight the information. You now have the ability to your follower list. It is now actually a small visual collection of those accounts that you are following. It is a very busy graphic look so be aware of it. You can now filter your feeds to only show those with video or images, or even only those that are replies to tweets.
As with all change, it will take a bit to get used to them, but my overall impression is that this will be an enjoyable switch-over for your Twitter experience.
Gather the new images with the appropriate sizes, select that favorite tweet to highlight, and then click the link and make the switch.
