About Fill the Funnel and Miles Austin

If you have ever spent an afternoon testing a tool that promised to transform your sales process, only to discover it was overbuilt, overpriced, or just not designed for the way you actually work, you already know why this site exists.

Fill the Funnel was built for the sales professional and small business owner who does not have time to sort through the noise. The person who needs a straight answer: does this tool work, how does it work, and is it worth the investment? That has been the mission here since 2006, and it has not changed.

What has changed is everything around it.

A Little Background

My name is Miles Austin. I have been in technology sales for more than 30 years, long enough to have watched the profession change completely more than once.

I started FillTheFunnel.com in 2006 because I kept seeing the same problem. Good salespeople were losing ground not because they lacked skill but because they were behind on tools. The reps who figured out email marketing early outran the ones who did not. The ones who understood social selling gained access that cold callers could not match. Every technology wave created a gap between the early adopters and everyone else, and that gap was expensive.

I wanted to build a resource that helped close that gap. A place where a working sales professional could find out what was actually worth paying attention to, explained by someone who had been in the trenches long enough to know the difference between a genuine shift and a well-funded hype cycle.

That is still what this site is.

The tools change. The goal does not: help you sell more by working smarter than everyone around you.

What You Will Find Here

Fill the Funnel covers the intersection of sales strategy and emerging technology. Not one without the other. A tool without a strategy is just an expense. A strategy without the right tools is just good intentions.

The content here falls into a few consistent categories:

  • In-depth coverage of sales technology, including CRMs, prospecting tools, AI platforms, and communication tools. Reviewed and explained by someone who actually uses them, not someone who read the press release.
  • Practical guides on how to use specific tools effectively. Not the feature list, but the workflow. How does this actually fit into a real sales day?
  • Honest takes on where the industry is heading, what matters, what is noise, and what you should be paying attention to before your competitors do.
  • Resources for solo sellers, consultants, and small business owners who are running their own sales operation and need tools that work at their scale and budget.

The writing here is direct. There are no affiliate-driven rankings dressed up as objective reviews. When I do use an affiliate link, it will be clearly labeled. No breathless takes on every new product launch. No content written to impress an algorithm at the expense of being useful to a reader.

If something is not worth your time, I will tell you. If something has changed the way I work and I think it will change the way you work too, I will tell you that as well and show you exactly how.

Why It Matters More Right Now

AI has entered the sales process in a way that is genuinely different from the tools that came before it. Not just faster or cheaper versions of existing things, but a fundamental shift in how prospecting works, how outreach gets written, how discovery calls are captured, and how pipeline gets managed.

The gap between sales professionals who understand how to use AI effectively and those who do not is already opening. It will widen significantly over the next two to three years. And unlike some previous technology waves, this one is moving fast enough that the catch-up cost is real.

A significant portion of the content here is focused on that right now. Not AI for its own sake, but AI as a practical layer on top of the sales process you already run. What to use, how to use it, what it costs, and what it actually changes about the way you work.

The goal is the same as it has always been: give you enough of a head start that you are setting the pace, not trying to match it.

Beyond Fill the Funnel

In 2024 I launched SeniorpreneurLab.com, a platform for the 50-plus professional who is building a second-act business on the foundation of a career’s worth of experience. The tagline says it better than I can: where experience becomes your edge.

The two sites are separate but connected. Fill the Funnel speaks to the sales professional and small business owner who wants to stay sharp on tools and strategy. SeniorpreneurLab speaks to the experienced professional who is turning that sharpness into a business of their own, and who needs the same practical, no-hype guidance applied to a different set of challenges.

If either of those sounds like you, you are in the right place.

Who This Is For

Fill the Funnel is written for a specific kind of reader. You might be:

  • A sales professional, whether a rep, manager, or leader, who wants to stay ahead of what technology is doing to the profession and make smart decisions about tools without wasting time or money on the wrong ones.
  • A small business owner who is also your own sales department and needs practical guidance on building a sales process that works without an enterprise budget.
  • A consultant or independent professional who sells expertise and wants the same tools and strategies the big teams use, scaled to what actually makes sense for one person.
  • Someone with significant professional experience who is evaluating what comes next and wants to understand how AI and modern sales tools fit into the picture.

If you recognized yourself in any of those descriptions, the best thing to do is start reading. The blog is updated regularly. The content is practical. And if you want the best of it delivered directly, the subscribe form below will take care of the rest.

Twenty years of sales technology. Covered straight. For the people who are actually selling.

Get in Touch

I read every email that comes in. If you have a question about a specific tool, a sales challenge you are working through, a topic you would like to see covered, or just want to say hello, use the contact form on this site or reach out directly on LinkedIn.

If you are a developer or vendor with a tool you think belongs on this site, I am always open to a conversation. Fair warning: I evaluate everything the same way I always have, by actually using it and telling you honestly what I found.
